More About Blue Whale Program

The Blue Whale Exercise Program teaches your body to slide thru impact in a cross lateral motion. This is a very safe way to play and practice the game of golf. The body loves to rotate, however it is not the healthiest way to train your body for the game of golf.

Tiger Woods has undergone five left knee operations and five back operations, with a fused for his last back operation. Jack Nicklaus has had both hips replaced. Retief Goosen, with the most beautiful golf swing on the face of the earth, was out for three years due to back issues. Jason Day at 28 years old said he would be lucky to play golf at 40. Michelle Wie retired at age 29. These players and many more are injured every year on the PGA and LPGA tours. Golf is a non contact sport, the injuries come from within.

Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan went down the same road. Both of them ended that ride with horrific car accidents that should have killed them both. Both Hogan and Woods lower body took the brunt of the accidents. Both had a heart as big as Texas, and a steel will to compete at the highest level. If Tigers accident had occurred in the 1950s he most likely would have never walked again. Modern medicine has given him a chance to compete again. Both players rehabilitated for 16 months before returning to the game they love. Ben Hogan won 6 majors after his accident, and in 1953 won the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the British Open on his only trip across the pond. The question golfers all over the world are asking is: can Tiger come back the way Hogan did in the 1950s? Chances are slim as we saw in his performance at the PGA that his legs are simply not strong enough to carry his heart around. If Tiger continues to use a swing with rotation he will do further damage to his lower body and back.

Ben Hogan’s swing had no rotation….. THAT’S THE DIFFERENCE.

Ben Hogan approaching impact. Note no rotation as he slides thru impact and no pressure on the back hips or knees. This motion is called cross lateral and is what separates my teaching from the rest. Hogan was taught this on land, however when you move it to water…BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!
Ben Hogan. Note the bowed left leg at impact. This bow will not happen if you rotate. The pressure will release to the inside and your upper body will follow. In this photo, the wall the bowed left leg has created does not allow the upper body to spin. Also, the upper body stays tall so there is no pressure on your back. When there is rotation, the back works under and then spins left.
Dustin Johnson, winner of 20 PGA tour events, including the Masters. Notice how his back works under and his left leg has spun left. This is an example of rotation.
Jason Day demonstrating rotation.
Jason at 28 years old, said it would be a miracle if he could play golf at the ripe old age of 40.
Ben Hogan demonstrating the through impact slides. Notice his bowed left leg and that he is standing very tall at impact. CROSSLATERAL AT ITS BEST. Ben is 52 years old in these pictures and he swings like a teenager.

A Special Thanks

Joe Norwood, 2 weeks before he passed at 100 years young.

Joe Norwood was an excellent golfer and teacher of Ben Hogan. Joe was my friend and mentor. I spent six years with Joe, and every year I learned more and more about the secrets of the golf swing. Joe taught Ben Hogan muscle memory and Ben Hogan certainly learned well as he went on to win 63 tournaments and nine majors. Joe also taught Horton Smith who could not pay his caddy fees for three years. After working with Joe, he won the first two Masters and had a great golf career. I learned much more than how to teach during my time with Joe Norwood. I will never forgot the stories Joe told me as he shaped my love and respect for the game of golf.
